Owner lowers price on Titian for British galleries (AP)

The Duke of Sutherland wants to sell the masterpiece of Renaissance painting to British public galleries if they can meet his $92 million asking price.  'Diana and Actaeon' is worth an estimated $275 million on the open market. The aristocrat has offered the work to major public galleries in Britain for a third of that price. The National Galleries of Scotland and London's National Gallery launched a public appeal Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, for funds to buy the painting. They hope to raise money from the government, arts bodies and private donors.
